Materials and raw materials

We only use high-quality materials and raw materials to produce our WallFace products. Particularly high requirements apply to production processes, quality, product properties and sustainability for the production of our wall panels and decorative panels.

Most panels are free of harmful chemicals (PVC free), and many are made from recyclable materials. This means they are not only visually appealing, but also healthy to live in. WallFace wall paneling is durable and easy to clean, making it ideal for use in living spaces.

Carrier material

For most of our products, we use a high-impact polystyrene type (HIPS) specially developed by WallFace as the carrier material. HIPS is particularly characterized by its robustness, impact resistance and very low weight.

The Antigrav product group uses PP glass fiber material. The sustainable Nature collection uses a carrier made of natural fiber. Bath Collection products are manufactured on an HPVC carrier. We also use fleece or flax fleece as a carrier material in our Capiz, Crystal and Natural collections.

We use specially developed, highly impact-resistant polystyrene (HIPS) as the carrier material for most of our products, which is characterized by shock and impact resistance. Another particularly pleasant feature is its low weight. This not only makes transport and processing much easier, but its associated material properties make it possible to cut the panels on site with a standard wallpaper knife. A feature that is extremely valued by our customers.

ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) is a polymer plastic that is characterized by excellent mechanical, thermal and physical properties. ABS is 100% PVC free, stable and has high dimensional stability and dimensional accuracy. At WallFace, ABS is used as a carrier (Structure Collection) and as a surface material in the form of an ABS-PMMA blend with a scratch- and abrasion-resistant antibacterial anti-fingerprint coating (Bath Collection). ABS retains its excellent material properties between -25 ° C and +60 ° C, is indestructible and recyclable.

Polyurethane faux leather is a synthetic material. Although high-quality PU leather can hardly be distinguished from real leather in terms of appearance and feel, it is more water-resistant and easier to care for. It is completely PVC-free, animal-friendly and more environmentally friendly to produce.

The carrier layer of the Bath wall panels is a polyvinyl chloride board with a fine-cell foam structure. Rigid polyvinyl chloride (HPVC) contains no plasticizers and is a very light thermoplastic polymer material with long durability – ideal for long-lasting products. Thanks to its water resistance, it can be used to line all walls in damp rooms – including the wet room.

Thanks to an innovative carrier plate made of PP glass fiber, wall panels from the Antigrav Collection are free of expansion joints, extremely light and dimensionally stable. The polypropylene backing board, a recyclable material, is reinforced with fiberglass and offers exceptional stability and durability. This means our Antigrav panels can withstand the daily demands of residential and commercial environments without deforming or damaging.

In contrast to most product groups, the items in the Opaco Collection have a thicker backing material. The Opaco wall panels use a 2 mm thick polystyrene (PS) board. It is a thermoplastic material that makes the handling and installation of the wall panels easier due to its lightness and versatile processing options.

The decorative panels from the Nature collection are an impressive combination of design and sustainability; they consist of a carrier material made of wood or natural fiber, a surface made of impregnated paper, and a high-quality acrylic adhesive. What particularly distinguishes this sustainable material combination is its FSC® certification. Another notable aspect of these products is their environmentally friendly disposal option. The Nature wall panels can easily be recycled using waste paper.

Thanks to carefully printed surfaces, realistic designs such as marble, wood or concrete looks are possible. Printed paper is used at WallFace as the bottom design layer of the brilliant S-Glass panels or the matt Opaco panels. But the impregnated version (paper with protective varnish) is also used as a surface material in the Wood or Nature collections.

Fleece is used as a carrier material in the Capiz and Crystal collections. The nonwoven fibers are made from compressed, long-fiber cellulose and textile fibers as well as binders. Thanks to its structure, fleece has a very high dimensional stability. This durable material is mildew-resistant, skin-friendly and breathable.

The breathable flax fleece consists of 100% natural plant fibers (linen) and is certified according to OEKO TEX® Standard 100. The heat-insulating, sound-absorbing and moisture-regulating properties promote a healthy indoor climate. The ecological material is climate-regulating and allergy-tested.

Surface material

In a changing world, we focus on sustainability and high design standards with 100% PVC-free surfaces. All variants are not only visually outstanding, but also impress with their unique feel. They meet the highest demands and are particularly suitable for indoor use. We utilize:

Polyurethane faux leather is a synthetic material. Although high-quality PU leather can hardly be distinguished from real leather in terms of appearance and feel, it is more water-resistant and easier to care for. It is completely PVC-free, animal-friendly and more environmentally friendly to produce.

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is a lightweight and versatile plastic from the polyester family that can be recycled and reused after use. PET is very popular due to its excellent mechanical properties and high resistance to chemicals and UV light. At WallFace, PET is primarily used as an abrasion-resistant special paint (PET paint) and for mirrored or metallized surfaces (Structure, Deco and M-Style collections). But this versatile and 100% PVC-free polymer (PET fiber) is also used in the textile panels of the Fabric Collection.

PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) is a transparent thermoplastic. PMMA, also known as acrylic glass, is often used as a lightweight and shatterproof alternative to glass because it is transparent, brilliant and scratch-resistant. PMMA retains its transparency even over a long period of time. It does not yellow and is resistant to UV light. The products in the S-Glass Collection use roughly 2 mm thick transparent PMMA, which enables a scratch-resistant high-gloss surface with a real glass effect.

The lightest thermoplastic is polypropylene (PP). Polypropylene is odorless, skin-friendly and physiologically harmless. It is also used in medical devices and sports textiles. Polypropylene is recyclable and 100 percent waterproof. In addition, PP is resistant to almost all organic solvents and fats, as well as most household cleaners. This makes the panels easier to care for and clean.

The raw material for natural surfaces in the Natural Collection grows on the steep mountain slopes of the Tyrolean Oberland and is harmless to the environment and health. The sunny slopes of the Alps offer the best growing conditions for the species-rich and fragrant organic alpine grass. The 100% natural, glued alpine hay flower mixture in different versions (with arnica, cornflower, heather and rose petals or whole daisies) is allergy-tested, breathable, climate-regulating and is produced in a CO2-neutral manner.

The surfaces of the Capiz Collection consist of the shells of real Capiz mussels from Asian coastal waters. The interplay of professional craftsmanship and 100% natural materials from the processed oyster shells give your room an incomparable and high-quality look.

The fine, shimmering glass beads are applied by hand to specially coated fleece carriers and give the products in the Crystal Collection a three-dimensionality and an unmistakable appearance.
